Bears Star Gives Honest Assessment Of Caleb Williams Amid Training Camp

One guy who will have a lot of eyes on him once the new NFL season begins is Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

While he has undeniable talent, the first overall pick has been criticized for his flamboyant personality and alleged lack of leadership. Williams has clapped back repeatedly against the bashers, and he's eager to prove them wrong once he steps foot on the gridiron.

Kevin Byard, the Bears' newly acquired safety, refuted the negative claims against Williams, paying the much-anticipated prospect the ultimate compliment.

"Obviously, before he was drafted, there was just a lot of noise in the media about his personality and all these different things," Byard said on the NFL Network. "I haven't seen any of that at all.

"He's been a great person, he's been a great leader."

After an esteemed career at USC, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2022, the 22-year-old Williams is now tasked to turn around a Bears squad that has been mired in mediocrity over the past few seasons.

With the way he's carried himself at training camp, as Byard also touted, Williams should live up to the hype sooner rather than later.

"He's been a guy that really bonds well with the team," Byard added. "He went to training camp last week, and we're all on the bus, the veterans, and he's out there hanging out with us.

"That's what you want to see out of your quarterback."

The two-time Pro Bowl selection also described Williams' "arm talent" and ability to provide intangibles as "special."

The Bears will open their preseason campaign against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.
