The Chicago Cubs defeated the Minnesota Twins 8-2 at Wrigley Field on Wednesday. The team have now won eight of their last twelve games and continue to stay in the National League playoff hunt.

Here is what you need to know from Wednesday's contest.

    Assad Still Isn't Right

It was another short start for Cubs pitcher Javier Assad . The right hander only went four innings after allowing two runs and two walks across that span. Control continues to be an issue since he has returned from the injured list and is still a good amount away from where he was at the beginning of the season.

Assad went 75 pitches, with only 48 being strikes. This now marks five of his last six starts that have gone for less than five innings of work.

Cubs Continue to Display the Power

The Cubs once again had a couple of home runs on the ledger on Wednesday as both Michael Busch and Ian Happ sent one over the wall at Wrigley in the series finale.

It was the 16th homer of the season for Busch as he got things started in the bottom of the first inning for the Cubs. As for Happ, his two run shot was the 18th of the year for the veteran outfielder.

The team had a solid offensive performance, picking up eight hits (three extra base hits) and five walks. They were 3 for 8 with runners in scoring position (RISP).

    The Bullpen was Outstanding

On Wednesday after taking over for Javier Assad after four innings, Cubs manager Craig Counsel needed an extended work load from the bullpen and they delivered.

The relief core combined for three hits allowed, no walks, and seven strikeouts across five innings of shut-out baseball to secure the series for Chicago.

    What's Next

The Cubs will be off on Thursday as they get set to begin a five game road trip. They won't go far at first as they will play a two game series with the crosstown Chicago White Sox beginning on Friday. The first pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST.
