Four counties are currently affected: Butte, Plumas, Shasta and Tehama, with 360,141 acres burned and only 12% of the fire contained.
Butte County Supervisor Peter Durfee spoke to the realities facing civilians on “NewsNation Now.”
“I know a lot of people that are impacted directly as far as having to evacuate,” Durfee said. “But as also I know some folks that have lost their homes, we have over 100 structures that have been burned as a result of this fire.”
At the time of writing, there have been no reported deaths.
Durfee criticized the California government for the disastrous situation; citing a lack of investment in comparison to homelessness in The Golden State.
“We’re only spending just over a billion dollars over a two-year period on managing our forests and trying to keep them clean. But at the same time, we’re spending 20 billion over the last five years on homelessness, and it continues to grow.
“So, our folks in the state legislature capitol; we need to focus on on the fuel, and we need to focus on forest management. So we don’t have this continue in our state.”
