CHILHOWIE, Va. (WJHL) – Chilhowie graduate Isaac Booth was a two-sport success for the Warriors in his time at the school. But, his true love has never been a secret.

“Baseball player all the way – been playing baseball since t-ball,” he explained.

The best part about America’s Pastime – it’s pretty hard to play it alone.

“I love playing as a team and with a team,” he said. “Whenever you’re on a team, you and your teammates, you kind of become a family together.”

He and his Warrior baseball family have been through it all together over the last four years. There have been some struggles, but the highs have been high – four-straight trips to the VHSL Class 1 state baseball tournament.

As it turns out, the Second Team All-State pitcher has some trouble picking which postseason run was his favorite.

“In my opinion, every single year,” he said. “Every single year we made it to state.”

Over the last few years, Booth has also excelled on the hardwood.

“It’s surprising honestly, because when I was a kid, I never wanted to play basketball,” he admitted.

He started with AAU ball in sixth grade, before his seventh-grade season caused a crucial development in his game.

“I was a starter and I think I tracked it – I scored 12 points the whole season and I just didn’t want that to happen again,” he said.

So, he put up shots every day, working to improve – and it paid off.

After just three high school seasons, Booth set the new school record for career three-pointers made with 151. He also tied the single-game three-point record with eight in a single game this past season.

“Shooting – that’s what I do, that’s what I’m good at,” he smiled.

Booth will continue his education at Virginia Highlands Community College, although sports will not be part of the equation.

Instead, he’ll cherish each cheer he’s received over the last four years from his supportive hometown community.

“You have people that show up to every single game, no matter what sport it is,” he said. “I’m going to miss it.”
