    CHILLICOTHE — Just because school is back in session doesn't mean there is no more fun to be had. Plenty of fun events around Ross County are scheduled for September so make sure to enjoy what free time you have. Make sure you also check out the Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau's calendar to stay up to date on planned events in the community.

    Blood Drive

    The South Central Ohio Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive at 181 North Bridge Street in Chillicothe on Sept. 13. After donating blood the community is encouraged to continue giving by purchasing a meal from Schmidt's Sausage Truck which will be set up in the parking lot. A portion of the money made from the day will go towards helping The Good Samaritan Food Network of Ross County .

    Raising the Roof Comedy Night

    Help support the Majestic Theatre through a special comedy night with headliner Jeff Jena with several local comics. Money spent on this event will help with the roof project of the theatre and work to protect the iconic building. Tickets for the Spet. 20 event can be purchased online .

    Oktoberfest

    Get your lederhosen on and get ready to celebrate Oktoberfest with wiener dog races, face painting, dancing, German beer and more. On top of having fun the proceeds for the event will help support downtown beautification through Christmas lights and flowers. Oktoberfest will be taking place from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 21 in Downtown Chillicothe.

    Mow Down ALS

    Join 2 Brothers Raceway as they work to end ALS, a nervous system disease, by raising money with a lawn mower and golf cart race. Along with the event there will also be raffles and other activities held during the day. This event takes place on Sept. 21.

    Jefferson Avenue CCCU Car Show

    The Christ in Christian Union Church in Chillicothe will be hosting their annual car show on Sept. 21 with registration starting at 10 a.m. and the event starting at noon. Dash plates will be given to the first 25 cars and trophies will be awarded to 15 of the top vehicles. A chicken and noodle dinner will also be held to raise money for the church's community Thanksgiving diner.

    Chillicothe Downtown Fall Open House

    Join downtown shops as they celebrate the changing of the season with an open house event with sidewalk sales, specialty treats and more. You might even hear a story or two about haunted buildings during the ghost walk. The open house will take place in Downtown Chillicothe on Sept. 20 through Sept. 22.

    Ross County Suicide Prevention 5K Walk/Run

    Race for a good cause as the Ross County Suicide Prevention Coalition and other community partners promote active living and reduce suicide deaths and attempts in the area. Registration for the event, which takes place on Sept. 22, is available online . Proceeds will go towards advocacy and training programs.

    Scioto Trail State Park Harvest Day

    The free family event at Scioto Trails State Park brings vendors, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, races, food and more to visitors. The Harvest Days event will take place on Sept. 27 and Sept. 28.
