Pekin unearths time capsule from the 1970s
PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) — The city of Pekin went back in time yesterday, by opening up a time capsule that was buried in 1977. The time capsule sat seven feet underground at City Hall. Officials say they actually unearthed the time capsule in May, but most of the contents were wet, so they needed to dry before yesterday’s viewing.
East Peoria police arrest man in relation to opening mailboxes
EAST PEORIA, Ill. – A 34-year-old man was given a notice to appear on charges relating to going through mailboxes in East Peoria. East Peoria Police say officers on June 26th noticed an “overwhelming majority” of mailboxes were open in the area of Arnold Road after receiving complaints.

Illinois man dies of injuries after fireworks accident, police say
A LaSalle County man died early Friday morning after sustaining injuries in a fireworks accident. The LaSalle County Sheriff's Office said that at 12:26 a.m., they were called to 3073 East 12th Road in between LaSalle and Ottawa after receiving a report of an incident involving illegal fireworks. A 25-year-old man was found injured at the scene and transported to OSF Healthcare St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
