CHILLICOTHE — As Ross County gets ready to celebrate the passage of the Declaration of Independence with the upcoming Fourth of July holiday many are planning their celebrations around the Chillicothe fireworks, here is what you need to know about the event:

    When is it?

The Chillicothe City fireworks take place every year on July 4.

    Where are the fireworks lit?

The fireworks are lit by a volunteer group in the annex of Yoctangee Park.

Where is the best place to see the fireworks?

Bill Knoles with the Noon Rotary said there are many places to see the fireworks throughout the park and in the city, however, the best spots are located along the floodwall. From this vantage point, he said viewers won't miss any of the exciting things they have planned for the show.

    Who pays for these fireworks?

The city fireworks are paid for in part by the city of Chillicothe, which contributes $15,000, and the Noon Rotary, which raises around $35,000 through sponsors. Community sponsors include Homeland Credit Union, Petland, Hernstein Family Fund, American Legion Post 62 and more. Adena Health System is the biggest sponsor giving $10,000 for the grand finale.

When does it start and how long will it last?

Knoles said fireworks are scheduled to start once the sky is dark enough around 10 p.m. after that the show is expected to last around 20 minutes with the grand finale capping off the night.
