North Minneapolis nonprofit Appetite for Change publishes cookbook
After a hard day at work, what Princess Titus wanted most was to “feed her heart,” which, at the time, craved fried chicken and hot sauce. Titus, senior engagement officer and one of three co-founders of Appetite for Change, a north Minneapolis organization centered on food and urban agriculture, was set to meet that night to cook with members of AFC’s youth program. But when they met, she told them there had been a change of plans. Instead of cooking food together, Titus told them to take her credit card and “go across the street and get 50 wings from Hooks.”
Heroes Unite fundraiser is Saturday, Aug. 3
The Lambert family of Maple Lake will hold their bi-annual Heroes Unite fundraiser on Saturday, August 3 at the Maple Lake Community Park from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fundraiser raises money to find a cure for KAND (KIF1A Associated Neurological Disorder) a rare disease five-year-old Hoyt Lambert battles every day. The event will feature an all new 5K run followed by the Tiny Hero Dash. Children are invited to wear their best superhero getups (or Superhero Hoyt t-shirts) and will be provided with silly string and squirt guns to fire at lurking villains as they run around the park. This family friendly event is geared toward the youngsters with superhero themed games, a bounce house and face painting. There will be plenty of food and a silent auction.
Commission on Judicial Selection Opens Application Process for Vacancies
[ST. PAUL, MN] – Today, the Commission on Judicial Selection announced two vacancies in Minnesota’s First Judicial District. The vacancies will occur upon the retirement of the Honorable Janet L. Barke Cain and the Honorable Timothy J. McManus. These seats will be chambered in Hastings in Dakota County.
Black Co-op Leaders Gather to Create National Network
In June, over 200 co-op members, co-op developers, supporters, and community organizers from across the country gathered in St. Paul, MN, for the Network for Developing Conscious Communities (NDCC)’s third annual national conference on the Black cooperative agenda. Addressing the conference, Melvin Carter, St. Paul’s first African American mayor, said the city wanted to become “the co-op capital of the world.”

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — The communities along the proposed METRO Blue Line Extension are getting a chance to review and discuss the proposed plans with the public. The METRO Blue Line Extension is anticipated to be 13.4 miles between Target Field and Brooklyn Park, and would also run through Crystal and Robbinsdale. The Met Council hopes to start service in 2030, and estimate total ridership would be nearly 30,000 daily trips.
