Summer porch concert to be held in Chisholm

CHISHOLM—The public is welcome to grab their lawn chair and head to First Street Southwest to hear some live music next weekend in Chisholm.

There are seven musicians planning to perform at this year’s event taking place from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 20, on a porch at 322 Southwest First St.

This is the third year of the concert, organized by local musician and Chisholm City Councilor Marty Halverson. It was introduced in 2017 as part of the Chisholm High School All Class Reunion and was also held in 2021 and 2023.

There are seven performers anticipated for this year’s concert playing a mix of original music and covers, Halverson told the Mesabi Tribune via email earlier this week.

“I’ll play accordion and piano—others play acoustic guitar and piano,” Halverson wrote.

Halverson grew up playing piano, and his accordion skills are self taught. His favorite part of the porch concert is, “playing,” he said.

In addition to Halverson the lineup includes Sara Softich & Friends, Tim Nelson, Leanne Flynn, and Hooligans.

Audience members can set up their chairs on the lawn, sidewalk, or the driving lane of First Street that will be blocked off for this event.

There is no admission charge, but donations are welcome.
