Man fatally stabbed in his Chula Vista apartment; police searching for suspect

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI ) — Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect after a man was stabbed to death in his apartment Friday night.

Authorities received a call about an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1400 block of Santa Lucia Road just after 8 p.m. Friday, the Chula Vista Police Department reports.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 49-year-old Hispanic man unresponsive with multiple stab wounds inside his apartment at the Terra Vista apartments in Otay Ranch (Chula Vista), according to police. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police report his identity is being withheld at this time.

After speaking with witnesses, police say preliminary information suggests a suspect broke into the apartment while wearing a mask, then stabbed the victim, and fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a man of unknown age, wearing a dark hoodie and dark shorts. Police say he may have fled the scene on a motorized scooter with blue wheels, but say investigators are still working to verify this as well as additional suspect information.

Chula Vista Police emphasized there does not appear to be a threat to the public, but police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect and gathering information on what led to the fatal stabbing.
