    Simon Kenton baseball coach Troy Roberts steps down, stays as athletic director

    After three years as athletic director at Simon Kenton High Schoo l, Troy Roberts is experiencing a first in his career.

    Roberts is taking applications to replace himself as head baseball coach at Simon Kenton High School . He stepped down earlier this week. Interested applicants can email him .

    Roberts is stepping down after 12 seasons as head baseball coach. He recorded 274 wins, including 11 district championships and three Eighth Region championships. He took the Pioneers to the state tournament three times in 10 seasons, reaching the state championship game in 2014 and 2017.

    This past spring, he led the Pioneers to a 27-14 record and the first round of the state tourney.

    "We knew we had a good group going in here, obviously. We told them from the start, 'We're going to coach you hard, we're going to be on you, we're going to play some blue-collar baseball," Roberts said after the final game. "It's a special group. We're going to miss these seniors a ton."

    He spent a decade as head coach at Scott High School before taking his coaching skills to Independence. He started his varsity coaching career as an assistant under Pat Roesel at Ryle.

    He cited time commitments balancing being a head coach and being an athletic director at a large school.
