Jim Scott died at age 81.

"Last night, our sweet Jim crossed over," confirmed a post on the radio host's Facebook page. The Cincinnati star officially stepped away from his job at WLW radio only nine years ago on April 3, 2015.

He struggled with ALS later in life. Jim's wife, Donna, wrote: "[Jim] is in the loving, welcoming embrace of his mom and dad, mine, his sister and so many friends. He has a new birthday. The grace with which he met and endured the indignities of ALS was astounding and inspiring. So very Jim."

Jim's legacy will be remembered as his 50 years on the radio with millions of listeners tuning in during the morning hours. "Everyone deserves recognition," was Jim's motto in life and he brought that spark of positivity to the airwaves.

He "always used his person and celebrity to do good and to make others feel special." For his contribution to the community, on March 28, he was honorary grand marshal of the Findlay Market Parade. His wife wrote: "The outpouring of love for Jim that day ... it's beyond words and filled our hearts with such happiness. Thank you for loving Jim!"

Donna honored him by sharing sweet memories, including his ability to "spark joy in everyone he met," noting that he "was in the pre-clearance line straight to heaven." His wife explained that she envisions him as a friendly face in heaven who is asking others about themselves, just as he did in life. Donna added: "He wanted them to shine. That is how he reflected light on so many people. It was one of the many gifts that he gave us all."

The family does not plan to hold a "funeral funeral" as Donna noted that would feel disingenuous to who Jim was. Instead, they plan to host a celebration of life.

Fans immediately poured out their sympathies and penned some touching tributes. One wrote on Facebook: "Jim will be missed. I had the honor of talking with Jim many times. The entire family always enjoyed his radio time. Our deepest condolences and our prayers are on the way."

"Rest well, Mr. Scott. I grew up with your voice and 7:00AM time checks. You're a Cincinnati legend. May the Lords perpetual light shine upon you," another said. A third chimed in: "I’m so sad to hear this. Jim is such a true gentleman and of course Cincinnati icon. I’m honored to have known him. I pray for you Donna, Scott and the rest of the family. Rest in peace Jim."
