Elly De La Cruz On The Verge Of Breaking Ted Williams Epic Record

The Cincinnati Reds have an electrifying talent in shortstop Elly De La Cruz, who continues his ascent to baseball superstardom. It definitely helps his case that he’s getting mentioned in the same sentence as the legendary Ted Williams.

During Tuesday night’s matchup against the New York Yankees in the Bronx, De La Cruz recorded a triple and a home run, the fifth time in his first 183 career MLB games that he pulled off the combo.

That also tied him with The Splendid Splinter for the most in a player’s first 185 games in the majors, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

De La Cruz had a triple in the fourth inning off Yankees starter Luis Gil.

“Some players are just comfortable in the big spot,” Cincinnati skipper David Bell said of De La Cruz after the game (via ESPN ).

“And he’s just at the beginning. There's going to be a lot bigger spots and bigger stages.”

The Reds completed the night with a 5-4 win to improve to 40-45.

On the season, the 22-year-old De La Cruz is slashing .254/.343/.483 with 15 home runs and six triples.
