Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is on a mission in 2024. He wants to remind people just how good he and his team can be when operating on all cylinders.
2023 was a list season for Joe Burrow and the Bengals. He entered the campaign recovering from a calf injury suffered early in training camp.
After knocking off the rust and finding his rhythm, another injury occurred. This time, it was of the season-ending variety, as Joe Burrow’s 2023 came to ane end after only 10 games.
Before that, the Bengals had made the AFC Championship Game two years in a row. Joe Burrow has proven to be the only quarterback in the AFC able to go toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs and beat them.
Despite that, there are still some people who are going to be surprised by the quarterback rankings revealed by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN . He spoke to executives, coaches and scouts from around the league, who voted on players at each position.
For quarterback, it was Joe Burrow coming in at No. 2. It was the second consecutive year that he finished as the runner-up to Mahomes in the quarterback rankings.
A big reason for the Bengals star landing behind Mahomes is the consistency he shows compared to his peers. That is the one trait that sets Joe Burrow apart from Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Matthew Stafford, who round out the top five.
“Burrow is still probably the most consistent of all the guys,” an NFL executive said . “A pure thrower who’s in complete command of the offense and comes up big in big moments. He knows when to attack and be aggressive vs. when to take the easy yards. And the dude is so tough.”
It will be interesting to see how Joe Burrow handles things this season with the Bengals. The personnel offensively has changed, as running back Joe Mixon was traded to the Houston Texans.
Wide receiver Tyler Boyd, one of the best slot receivers in the NFL, departed, signing a deal with the Tennessee Titans. The future of Tee Higgins remains in the air as well as he seeks a long-term contract.
The talent around him is a concern for some people. But, the biggest obstacle that he needs to overcome his staying healthy.
In two out of four seasons, he has suffered a season-ending injury. The Bengals need to emphasize protecting him, otherwise they will fail to reach the goals they have in place.
