Cincy could still play a part in the 2026 World Cup

While Cincinnati won't be hosting any World Cup games in 2026, it's good to know the Queen City could still play a part on the international stage.

Last month, we reported that FIFA released a list of 24 "high-grade" locations that could serve as Team Base Camps, "homes away from home," for the 48 participating teams in the prestigious soccer tournament.

Nine cities outside the 16 selected host cities are included in that bunch, and Cincinnati is among them. If our city is ultimately chosen by a participating team, it will serve as a home base where teams will eat, sleep and train in between their three group-stage matches.

With the soccer community continuing to grow in Cincinnati, hosting a World Cup team − even if they don't play actual matches here − would provide a truly unique and unprecedented experience for fans. Can you imagine if the German team were to stay in Cincinnati considering the city's German roots? Or imagine just casually bumping into one of the world's top players at a local restaurant?
