Bengals QB Joe Burrow receives perfect motivation from rival AFC coach as NFL training camps get underway

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow probably doesn't need any added motivation entering the 2024 season.

Between coming up short in Super Bowl LVI and missing the final seven games of the 2023 season, there should be no shortage of motivation for the former LSU standout.

But as Burrow said in early 2023, if there's external motivation available, you might as well use it.

That's why Burrow would be wise to use Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh's comments about quarterback Lamar Jackson this week as motivation for the 2024 season.

Harbaugh said this past weekend that his vision for Jackson is for the former Louisville star to become the greatest quarterback to ever play in the NFL.

"The vision that we have together is that Lamar Jackson is going to become and be known and be recognized as the greatest quarterback ever to play in the history of the National Football League, that's the vision," said Harbaugh . "It's going to happen by Lamar, his work ethic and his brilliant talent by all of us pouring into that effort together as a team, teamwork and by the grace of God and God's good will...That's how it's going to happen. And I believe it like we've already seen it."

The Ravens will likely be the Bengals' biggest competition in the AFC North in 2024. Essentially, Burrow is going to have to stay healthy and out-perform Jackson if the Bengals are going to win the division this fall.

We already know that Burrow is one of the most competitive players in the NFL. He badly wants a Super Bowl ring. And I think it's safe to assume that he also badly wants to be the best quarterback in the NFL. Harbaugh's comments about Jackson, though obviously not directed at Burrow in any way, are probably going to get under Burrow's skin a bit, even if he doesn't publicly admit it. And that's a good thing for the Bengals. The best athletes in the world take their game to another level when they play with a chip on their shoulder. And while Burrow almost certainly already had a big chip on his shoulder before Harbaugh's comments, that chip is probably a little bigger now.

Joe Burrow with an edge is as dangerous as it gets in the NFL.
