Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase Clearly Does Not Like Patrick Mahomes

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has had enough of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes getting all of the limelight.

While discussing the top 100 players in the league with NFL.com, Chase was asked to name the top guy on the list (which is Mahomes).

Chase refused to call out the three-time Super Bowl champion by name.

The Bengals are actually the only AFC team to beat the Chiefs in the playoffs over the last five years, as Cincinnati upset Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game back in January 2022 to advance to the Super Bowl. The Chiefs then avenged the loss the following year.

Chase clearly has respect for Mahomes and Co., but he admits that he is “salty” over the fact that Kansas City has won the championship two years in a row.

Some feel that Cincinnati actually represents the biggest threat to the Chiefs in the AFC heading into 2024, particularly given the fact that the Bengals have proven that they can beat them.

Can the Bengals dethrone the Chiefs?

Cincinnati did not get a chance for a playoff rubber match against Kansas City last winter, as the Bengals went 9-8 and missed the playoffs.

That was largely due to Joe Burrow’s absence, as the star quarterback missed the back half of the campaign due to a wrist injury that would require surgery.

But can Cincy bounce back in 2024?

The Bengals have actually lost some key pieces this offseason, trading away running back Joe Mixon and losing No. 3 receiver Tyler Boyd to free agency.

Still, the core group of Burrow, Chase and Tee Higgins is intact, and Cincinnati also made some moves to improve its shaky defense.

Of course, the Bengals have the misfortune of playing in the rugged AFC North, where they finished in last place in 2023 in spite of finishing with a winning record.

Chase hauled in 100 receptions for 1,216 yards and seven touchdowns last season, earning his third straight trip to the Pro Bowl.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football with Burrow at LSU, was selected by Cincinnati with the fifth overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Ja’Marr Chase went as far to label Burrow the best player in the league just to avoid mentioning Patrick Mahomes’ name.

We’ll see how all of this shakes out when the Bengals battle the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2.
