Joe Burrow has opened up on his exciting rivalry with Kansas City Chiefs and NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes , with the quarterbacks enjoying some epic showdowns over the past four years.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Burrow is 3-1 against Mahomes and the Chiefs since being drafted to the NFL first overall in 2020 out of LSU. Last year, Burrow faced a challenging season plagued by injury and missed the final seven games.

Now with Burrow in training camp and fit ahead of the 2024 campaign, the Bengals have been tipped to be in the Super Bowl contenders pool, alongside the three-peat-chasing Mahomes Kansas City . Burrow has opened up about his rivalry with Mahomes and what makes facing his quarterback rival so special.

"I think you got to go out and not be scared to make mistakes," Burrow told Up & Adams . " You got to go out and make plays because you know he's gonna go out and make plays and that brings out the best in me. It's always an exciting challenge when we go against each other.

"It's an opportunity every time you go against him too because you know all eyes are gonna be on it. It's always exciting. We've played each other so many times now."

Burrow says he has got to know members of the Chiefs' defense, such as Chris Jones, as a result of their duels down the years, as well as Travis Kelce, as they both come from Ohio. "You get to know the guys on defense," Burrow continued.

"I don't know as many of the guys on offense because we're not going against each other. But guys like Chris [Jones], I know Trav [Kelce] because he's an Ohio guy.

"Clyde [Edwards-Helaire] is over there. I know a lot of people we've gone against each other so many times and when you know each other in and out like that it always makes for a tough game that's for sure."

Burrow is also heading into the new campaign looking drastically different - and it's not his conditioning. The 27-year-old has shown up to training camp with a bleach-blonde buzzcutt. "B.J. said that if I buzzed it and bleached it, he would do it, too. So now everybody's gotta hold him accountable 'cause he's gotta do it in the next week," he explained to reporters. "I got bored, that's about it."

Burrow also issued an update on his wrist. "I was happy with [it] today," he said. "Still feeling it out, still have some throws where it's like, 'Well what did that look like?' Usually goes where I want it to but doesn't spin the way I want it to. So, we're still working through that."
