The historic George B. Peck Dry Goods Company Building is at 1044 Main Street in Kansas City, Missouri. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 30, 1980.

The building is now known as Peck's Plaza containing commercial and retail space. The floors have high ceilings and the building is a block from the Power & Light District.

This historic 11-story structure is in the Central Business District and represents the Commercial style of architecture. It sits on a sloping corner of Main and 11th Streets.

This building is important because it's one of the few remaining early dry goods company buildings in the city's retail district. The architectural firm was Root and Siemens.

    George B. Peck

Since his early childhood, George B. Peck (1863-1906} was interested in wholesale as it relates to the dry goods business. When Peck was in New York, he met John Doggett who was organizing a dry goods business in Kansas City. Peck developed an interest in Doggett's store. He purchased stock in his company and set off for Kansas City in the fall of 1889.

In 1894, Peck became the vice president of Doggett's dry goods company. In 1898, Peck bought Doggett's interest in the company and by 1901, the company's name changed to George B. Peck Dry Goods Company.

For years, Peck's company was one of the leading department stores in the city. Interestingly, it operated until 1964 when it closed.

Today, known as Peck's Plaza, it's in the Library District. Visit here to see some amazing interior photos of office space.
