Lil’ Govs Fun Run Begins Next Tuesday
Starting this coming Tuesday, July 9, Pierre Cross Country coach Jim Keyes and the cross country team will be host the Lil’ Govs Summer Cross Country Fun Run. It will happen over the next four weeks, every Tuesday in July starting at 5:30 which will be down at the Griffin Park Tennis courts. The athletes will run on the bike path along the river and then turn and run back through the middle of the park. There will signage for kids to run a half mile, mile or two miles with the kids deciding how far they want to run. The goal of the runs is to grow the sport of cross country and have fun while doing it. It is for kids aged kindergarten through fifth grade.

In Legion baseball, Madison Post 25 allowed just 3 hits, but they walked 7 and committed 3 errors, in an 11-6 loss to Mt. Vernon-Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney on Tuesday night. Mt. Vernon scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning. The big hit was a 2 RBI single from Daniel Laufamn. They also scored runs in the inning on a walk, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and an error.

Sioux Falls East would get two wins on Tuesday sweeping Pierre Post 8 at Hyde Stadium with a 5-1 and 5-4 wins for their tenth straight South Dakota win. East would get a two RBI double from Kooper Perry in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead and added on in the third with a RBI single from Ryan Hirsch. The Eights would get its lone RBI from George Stalley, a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, but an extra two insurance runs would score in the seventh delivered by Ethan Olson. Pierre had just three hits in the game and had just two base runners in the first four innings. Miles Doyle would be tagged with the loss giving three runs, two earned, on seven hits, three walks and four strikeouts in five and 2/3 innings.

For the second year in a row Dusty and Brooke Formanek are running the fireworks stand for the community members near and far. "The company that we use is Borderline Fireworks out of New Mexico," said Brooke. Borderline Fireworks also services and supplies three other stands in South Dakota; Ft. Pierre, Sturgis, and Whitewood. They acquired the four-stand territory over the winter from the New Underwood based company who had been supplying Philip with fireworks for about 20 years.
