A group of hikers needed rescuing in Sullivan County during the extreme heat wave that hit the Hudson Valley this month. STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul announced today that the Empire State Service Corps Program application has officially opened. The program, which will establish 500 new “service positions will be created across SUNY’s colleges and universities,” was financed by $2.75 million from the Fiscal Year 2025 enacted budget, a written statement detailed.

City Reminds Residents That Fireworks Are Illegal in NYS
The City urged people to celebrate safely and legally by attending fireworks shows at locations with proper approval for launching fireworks. A press release from the Mayor’s office said that fireworks, firecrackers, and bottle rockets are not only illegal but also a significant nuisance. The City has received numerous complaints at both City Council meetings and the Mayor’s office.
