The Most Deadly Prison Riot In America Happened In New York
New York State has the notorious distinction of being the home of the deadliest prison riot in U.S. history. The 53rd anniversary of the tragedy is coming up in about a month and a half. The Attica Prison Riot, also known as the Attica Prison Rebellion, began on September 9, and ended on September 13, 1971, at the Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, New York. Attica is located at 639 Exchange Street in Wyoming County.
Lee celebrates new mural highlighting town features
Lee — The town is looking a bit more colorful these days after artist Cheyenne Renee added a mural to Main Street. The Covington, Va. native founded the 50in50 Project in the fall of 2021, with her goal being to paint one mural in a small town within each state by the end of 2025. Mass. tweaks emergency shelter system; migrants won't have priority
Massachusetts, facing an unsustainable level of homelessness, is changing its emergency shelter system, the Healey administration announced Tuesday. Under the new system, which goes into effect next month, migrants will qualify for five-day stays at new temporary respite centers in Cambridge, Chelsea, Lexington and Norfolk, but not for stays at existing Emergency Assistance shelters, according to the announcement.
