Missing correctional service canine found safely

UPDATE: CoreCivic has announced that Dex has been found and returned to his canine handler.

A local resident of the Clarksdale area found Dex and contacted CoreCivic.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — CoreCivic is asking the public for help to locate a missing correctional service canine.

CoreCivic correctional service canine, Dex, who is assigned to the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility, escaped his residential enclosure in Clarksdale, Mississippi, near Catalpa Street.

Dex is a Belgian Malinois and was last seen at approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 4.

It is believed that he was spooked by fireworks being set off in the nearby area. CoreCivic said Dex is not considered aggressive, but he does not enjoy being petted.

CoreCivic asks that anyone who might have seen Dex or has information regarding his whereabouts please contact us at (662) 833-9319 or (662) 833-9368, or contact the Clarksdale Police Department.

CoreCivic is offering a $2,500 reward to anyone who assists us in his safe return.

“We’re grateful to the public for helping us locate Dex so that he can return home safely and continue with his public service work at our Tallahatchie facility,” Luis Rosa, Warden of Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility said.
