CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Clarksdale Police Department is investigating after two homes were shot at on Monday, leaving four people injured including a six-month-old girl.

“After the shooting stopped, my grandbaby wouldn’t stop crying, so I flipped her over and checked her out and she had been shot in the back,” one of the shooting victims said.

The victim says she was in her home on Cuyahoga Street in Clarksdale Monday night when bullets shattered her window and air conditioner. Her granddaughter was taken to Lebonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

“They couldn’t remove the bullet fragment because they didn’t want to damage her even more. But she’s fine right now, she’s resting well,” the victim said.

Her husband was shot in one of his feet. The woman was hit by gunfire more than once.

“I was shot in my hip and in my behind and also in my leg,” she said.

The reasoning behind the shooting is still unclear.

“I really don’t know what caused it at all. I swear I don’t,” the shooting victim said.

Just a few blocks away on Cherry Street another woman says, “I’m talking about bullet holes just everywhere. They even shot around on the back too. Bullet holes just everywhere.”

Tina McDonald says there was gun damage to the house her two sons live in and one of them is disabled.

“They were in the house, laying across the bed in their room and watching TV,” McDonald said.

McDonald says the house was “shot up” very early Monday morning. She believes those gunshots, which came very close to killing her two sons, came from an alleyway behind her house because she says she saw Clarksdale Police over there picking up shell casings.

A bullet went through the wall and struck her disabled son.

“He got shot in his feet. The bullet went in and came all the way out, broke his bone,” McDonald said. “Why everybody can’t just get along? I just don’t understand, this is crazy.”

The Clarksdale Police Department was not available to comment on the ongoing investigation or state whether they have any suspects.
