1st Annual Kids Expo on Saturday, August 10th
The Lawrence Schools Foundation is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Kids Expo on Saturday, August 10th from 9:00am – 1:00 pm. We have created an opportunity to invite local businesses and organizations to help us support and celebrate our Lawrence Public School students and families within our community. The event will include free screenings, educational opportunities, free shoes, haircuts and back to school supplies as well as prize drawings and free giveaways, food, entertainment and more!
Bee Jays Dominate Dodge in Home Finale
The Liberal Bee Jays won their last home game 17-0 in seven innings Saturday night at Brent Gould Field. Robert Orr was named the Bee Jay Player of the Year before the game. Liberal finishes 14-4 at home and stays tied for first in the Rocky Mountain with one game to play for both Hays and the Bee Jays.
Kevin Thomas Jr. claims inaugural USAC Silver Crown Salt City 100 title
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kevin Thomas Jr. claimed the title in the inaugural USAC Silver Crown Salt City 100 on Saturday evening at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Thomas Jr. entered the night with five runner-up finishes, but no titles. The Cullman, Alabama native was able to secure the championship in his 22nd career start in the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series.
Grace Health Day scheduled for Sept. 28
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Grace Health Day will provide free medical services to the community on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1221 East 33rd on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no pre-requisites. Transportation will be provided to and from George Pyle Park every hour. All are welcome!
Jill Ward and David Hickman: Get to know the Wichita-area primary candidates
Two conservative candidates — Jill Ward and David Hickman — are running for a Kansas House seat after the retirement of longtime state Rep. Brenda Landwehr. Landwehr was first elected in 1997 and stayed in office until 2012. She then returned to office in 2017. But her possible replacements in the Republican primary have little to no political experience. The winner of the primary takes on John Burke in the general election this November.
Hafertepe Jr. Dominates 81 Speedway for Third-Straight Victory
WICHITA, KS (July 20, 2024) – Sam Hafertepe Jr.’s first three wins of the season on the American Sprint Car Series National Tour came consecutively in June, and history repeated itself Saturday night. The five-time Series champion led every lap at 81 Speedway en route to his third-straight Feature win and sixth of the season.
Seeking Ideas For Downtown Space Uilization
The public is invited to attend an open house to provide input to assist in development of a long-term plan for space utilization in the downtown area. According to the City of Salina, this will be an important component in determining and designing Saline County and City of Salina space utilization needs in the future. Both the City of Salina and Saline County are jointly participating in this analysis.
