Lakers tied at fifth as regular season nears end
The Maple Lake Lakers are on the home stretch of the North Star League regular season, which officially comes to an end on Sunday, July 21. The Lakers currently sit in a tie for fifth with Litchfield and with only a few games to go a lot could happen in the standings, making the final three games critical. Hutchinson and Buffalo are separated by only one game at the top of the standings and play each other twice before the season is over with Delano hot on their tails for the top spot. The bottom-five teams are likely set unless Howard Lake gets hot and jumps Dassel-Cokato. Once the dust settles on the regular season and the play-in tournament the remaining eight teams will face off in Dassel to determine who goes to state.

MINNEAPOLIS — Wednesday kicks off a stretch of lovely summer weather in the Twin Cities.Wednesday's forecast high is 76 degrees with low humidity. The area of high pressure that's responsible for the beautiful weather will shift eastwards overnight into Thursday. This will really calm down the wind and bring out the best of summer with highs in the upper 70s with low humidity once again. Why stop there? It looks like a beautiful day on Friday, too, with highs pushing the lower 80s. That high pressure shifts eastwards and then we invite a little more moisture in for the weekend.Expect a weekend in the lower 80s with a few Saturday evening showers across Minnesota, and a chance for a few isolated evening storms on Sunday. Highs then increase to the mid-80s on Monday with another risk for thundershowers. It looks like we then return to the lower 80s around midweek next week. No signs of significant heat, yet.

It was one of the shortest-- and cheapest-- flights out of Minnesota that Sun Country Airlines ever offered. But it might be soon a thing of the past. Those flights ran a whopping 21 minutes, a distance of just 85 miles, and were part of a $6.5 million annual grant meant to improve travel in rural America.
