'Family Feel' at Clemson Stands Out to 4-Star In-State Offensive Lineman

Being an in-state talent, 4-star Desmond Green has made multiple visits to Clemson.

The 2026 offensive lineman (Timberland, Saint Stephen) was on hand for the junior day back in March and then returned again in early June while Dabo Swinney’s high school was in progress.

“I think the main thing that I like the most while camping at Clemson was definitely the environment,” Green told The Clemson Insider. “Being around all the coaches, actually everybody on the coaching staff was definitely a perk while I was out there.”

Getting to experience first-year offensive line coach Matt Luke’s coaching style was something that Green was looking forward to.

“I like how coach Luke does his job,” Green said. “He’s very corrective of my technique and will be the first one to tell me what I did wrong and be the first one to praise me when I do right.”

During his workout, Green showed why he was one of the top recruits in the state, and would leave town with an offer in hand.

“Coach Swinney gave it to me in his office,” said Green. “Me and him were chatting about how my day went, some of his past, and his resume as a coach.”

Due to how hard the Tigers had been recruiting him, Green went into camp having a feeling the offer was on the way.

“Based on how the coaching staff has been communicating with me and keeping in touch, I felt like the only way I could’ve not gotten offered that day was if I just came out and stunk it up.”

Rivals ranks the 6-foot-4, 350-pound offensive lineman inside the Top 200 overall and as the fifth-best interior linemen in the class. Green already has close to 20 offers, with Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State and Georgia being just a few in pursuit.

When comparing Clemson to some of those other schools that are recruiting him, Green said there is something different about the Tigers.

“That family feel being around everybody and all of the coaching staff,” Green said. “That is definitely something different. I probably have everybody on that coach of staff in my phone hitting me up every now and then especially coach Luke.”

As he goes through the process, Green is looking to get a quality education, something he feels like he could get at a number of schools, and he’s also placing a great deal of emphasis on relationships and who can help develop him the best.

“At any school, I’ll get a good education,” Green said. “So, I think the main things I’m looking for are who do I have the best relationships with and who can develop me to be the best offensive lineman and best man.”
