    Former Clemson Pitcher Signs MLB Contract

    After being taken by the Angels in the fourth round of the MLB Draft, former Clemson hurler Austin Gordon has officially signed with the organization.

    Gordon, who was taken No. 110 overall, has signed for $572,500, meaning he will forgo his final year of eligibility. The pick had a slot value of $662,900.

    The right-hander began the 2024 season in the starting rotation before moving to the closer’s role. He finished with a 2-2 record, 11 saves and a 4.35 ERA in 22 appearances (five starts). His 11 saves tied for third all-time in school history.

    In 24.2 innings pitched over 17 relief appearances last season, he had a 2.19 ERA, .131 opponents’ batting average and 35 strikeouts against nine walks. He allowed only two of nine inherited baserunners to score.

    As a sophomore in 2023, Gordon had a 2-4 record and 4.61 ERA in 16 starts. In 84.0 innings pitched, he allowed 77 hits (.243 opponents’ batting average) and 22 walks with 76 strikeouts.

    During his three-year career, he was 5-6 with an ERA of 4.64. He struck out 160 hitters to just 49 walks in 151.1 innings pitched.
