One college football powerhouse is being written off by many fans, but Greg McElroy is resisting the urge to abandon them.

On Thursday’s episode of his " Always College Football" show, McElroy revealed that he’s still backing Clemson as a team to be reckoned with for the 2024 season.

Despite a disappointing finish last season, where Clemson ended with four losses for the first time since 2011, McElroy is not ready to count them out.

“Most people want to write them off as if they are dead,” McElroy said. “I’m going to resist the urge of going down the Tyler from Spartanburg rabbit hole because I believe in the young nucleus of talent they have.”

Clemson's slow start last season, which included a 2-4 record in the ACC, eventually helped the team rediscover its identity.

McElroy pointed out that the decision to go younger on defense was a key factor in their turnaround, which saw them win five consecutive games to close the year.

This included notable victories over Notre Dame, North Carolina, and a 38-35 bowl win against Kentucky.

“There’s a lot to like about how this team played down the stretch,” McElroy shared. “They weren’t that far away last year,” he later added.

With a renewed focus and a talented roster, McElroy believes Clemson is poised to reclaim its status as one of the top programs in college football and compete for their first championship since 2018.
