One of Clemson’s top recruiting targets in the 2026 class is set to be back on campus Monday.

4-star cornerback Samari Matthews (William Amos Hough, Cornelius, NC) is in the process of making numerous stops, having already been to South Carolina and Florida State over the weekend. After spending the day in Clemson on Monday, Matthews will then head to Chapel Hill to visit North Carolina on Tuesday.

Matthews was the first player in the 2026 class to go public with an offer from the Tigers, and he now has close to 40 in total.

“That they really want me, and I’m a high priority. Which is always nice to hear,” Matthews told TCI in a recent interview. “Coach Reed also wants to keep building on our relationship, which I feel we have a pretty good one.”

Clemson, Penn State, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida State, UNC, NC State, South Carolina, Oregon and Alabama being the schools he has mentioned as some that are recruiting him the hardest.

Rivals ranks Matthews as the second-best corner in the class and No. 24 overall. He was last in Clemson for the Elite Junior Day back in March.

“I do feel like I’d be a great fit and would love to be coached by Mike Reed.”
