Clemson has added its first defensive prospect for the 2026 recruiting class. Shavar Young Jr., a four-star recruit from Webb School of Knoxville (Tenn.), committed on Friday evening.

Standing 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds, Young is ranked as the No. 182 overall player and No. 12 athlete in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. A versatile two-way player in high school, he excelled as a wide receiver and cornerback, and the Tigers saw him as a fit for their secondary.

Defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin and cornerbacks coach Mike Reed visited Young during the evaluation, solidifying their interest in him. In early June, he became one of Clemson’s first cornerback offers.

Young had a standout sophomore season. On offense, he had 84 receptions for 1,130 yards and nine touchdowns, along with 17 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and an interception. On defense, he had an interception. He chose Clemson over offers from schools like Colorado, Florida, Georgia, and Michigan, among others.

Young joins Queen Creek (Ariz.) four-star quarterback Tait Reynolds in Clemson’s 2026 class.
