    Cavaliers vs Lakers

With just four games on the NBA schedule Saturday, the focus should be on the matinee between the Cavaliers and the Lakers. The Cavs are hoping to catch Milwaukee for the no. 2 seed in the Easter Conference while the Lakers still have hope of avoiding the play-in tournament with a strong finish. That figures to make this a close game that both teams will want to win. The Lakers have enjoyed great success during the second half of March and early part of April. They’ve won three in a row and eight of their last nine games while going 6-3 against the spread during that stretch. While their key players are old, they look serious about making another deep playoff run.

The Cavs, on the other hand, are in the middle of falling apart. They haven’t won back-to-back games since the end of February, showing little consistency. The silver lining is that Cleveland is coming off a loss. The Cavs are also back to full strength health-wise. But they’re also 1-5 straight up and 1-5 against the spread in their last six road games. Look for the Lakers to take advantage of that and win this game handily.

    Alabama vs UConn

The nightcap of the Final Four between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Connecticut Huskies gives us an unusually large spread for a Final Four game. The Huskies are favored by 11.5 points, as they sit just two games away from repeating as national champs. The biggest reason for that is the fact that the Huskies have won 11 in a row and gone 10-1 against the spread in those wins. They won by 30 points over San Diego State in the Sweet 16 and crushed Illinois by 25 points in the Elite Eight, running two good teams out of the building.

Of course, the Crimson Tide knocked off both North Carolina and Clemson that weekend. They’re also 4-0 against the spread during the tournament, scoring at least 89 points in three of their four tournament games. Of course, given Alabama’s porous defense, the Crimson Tide may need to score 90-plus points to have a chance in this game. The problem is that UConn’s defense is too stifling and could slow down Alabama’s attack. The Huskies have held seven of their last eight opponents to 60 points or less, including just 52 points against a potent Illinois team in the Elite Eight. That’s all the evidence you need to know UConn is going to blow Alabama away and cover the spread.
