CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Guardians are activating superstar third baseman Jose Ramirez off the paternity list. In order to make room for Ramirez, the team is sending rookie first baseman Kyle Manzardo down to AAA Columbus.

Ramirez, 31, was placed on the paternity list on June 15th. He had 11 home runs in his previous 30 games prior to going on the paternity list. He also was batting .308 with a 1.044 OPS. He is expected to make his return to the lineup against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.

Manzardo, known for getting on base, had been struggling since being called up in May with a .207 batting average and .241 on-base percentage. Despite having a low average, he made his hits count as ten of his 17 hits had been doubles. He also struck out 23 times and walked just three times in 82 at bats.

"Kyle had some huge hits for us and contributed to a lot of wins," Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said prior to Tuesday night's matchup against the Mariners. "We had to make a roster decision. We felt Kyle getting down to Columbus and getting consistent playing time every day, playing first base, getting back into a rhythm and into a groove. He'll be ready whenever we need again."

"It was more about his playing time and kind of seeing his playing time dwindle a little bit over the last couple of weeks," Vogt continued. "[We just want] him to get consistent at-bats together and work on the things he needs to."

First pitch at Progressive Field will be at 6:40 PM.
