Now, another Pro Bowler is going to bat for the kind of player that Cooper is. It may mean a bit more even with the fact that the player is one that Cooper has to go up against.
"A guy that has been a consistent thousand-yard receiver and has been doing his thing and people still don't give him credit is really Amari Cooper," Philadelphia Eagles CB Darius Slay said on the Green Light with Chris Long.
Slay and Cooper will match up in Week 6 when the Browns visit Philadelphia. Having Cooper in that game and really all season for the Browns as their No. 1 wide receiver. Cooper had 1,250 receiving yards last year while catching the ball from four different quarterbacks. With the time that Deshaun Watson has missed, he and Cooper have not been able to build the connection that is possible. It is one that could take the Browns to the next level if it ever comes to fruition.
"I'm seeing right now that Cleveland don't want to pay him, they need to pay that man that money," Slay said.
Cooper is due to be a free agent after the season and the Browns would be in a bad spot without him or a replacement. Cleveland traded for Jerry Jeudy, but he has not had a 1,000-yard season in his NFL career. Jeudy would be their top wideout without Cooper and be joined by Elijah Moore.
The Browns are all in on Watson succeeding and Cooper not being in the picture would be them shooting themselves in the foot. Cleveland also needs Cooper and another Pro Bowler agrees.
