One former Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl safety could be nearing the end of his NFL career with the latest news.

Current free agent safety Tashaun Gipson was suspended six games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Gipson played for some very bad teams in Cleveland from 2012 through 2015 after making the team as an undrafted free agent. In 2014, Gipson made 52 tackles, six interceptions, and a forced fumble on his way to his only career Pro Bowl.

After leaving Cleveland, Gipson started all 48 games that he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars over the next three seasons. In 2019, Gipson started 14 games for the Houston Texans and had three interceptions. Between 2020 and 2021, Gipson started 28 games for the Chicago Bears.

In 2022, Gipson had five interceptions for a very good San Francisco 49ers defense . He was again a starter for them in 2023 by starting 16 games last season. After the 2023 season, Gipson became a free agent and is yet to sign with a team. Gipson will have to kiss the first six games of the 2024 season, so if he does sign somewhere it’ll be after a month into the season.

Being a sound safety that has found a way to find the football throughout his NFL career has helped Gipson last this long in the NFL. Just last season he was still playing at a high level.

It would not be a surprise if this is it for Gipson, who has played plenty of football for more than the last decade. In 173 career games, Gipson has made 33 interceptions and scored three touchdowns. Now, we wait to see if the soon-to-be 34-year-old wants to give it another go.
