PETA Goes After NFL Team After Death of Mascot

News came out earlier this week that the Cleveland Browns mascot, Swagger Jr. had passed away. He was 5 years old. This prompted a statement by PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman, per TMZ Sports .

"Generations of breeding for a certain look have left bullmastiffs prone to hip dysplasia, cancer, and life-threatening heart issues, among other painful conditions." She added that she believed Swagger Jr.'s death "should be seen as a damning indictment of an industry that deliberately churns out these doomed breathing-impaired breeds."

The Browns actually have multiple mascots already, which is strange enough on its own.

The official mascot of the Browns is Brownie the Elf. The team also has Chomps, Muni, Stripes and they did have Swagger Jr. or SJ.

The team released a statement about the passing of Swagger Jr. but didn't mention anything about going forward with another live dog or not.

PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is an animal rights group. They work to protect the rights of all animals under any circumstances including this one with the Browns.

Will Cleveland feel enough pressure from PETA to stick to the other four mascots they or will they go forward with another live mascot as well?
