Ramírez, Kwan named starters in All-Star game

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Two Cleveland Guardians were officially named as starters for the American League All-Star game later this month.

Third baseman José Ramírez is returning as an All-Star for the sixth time, while outfielder Steven Kwan is gearing up for his very first one.

The Guardians took to social media after the announcement, calling Kwan’s selection “no surprise to us. Congrats on your first start and first selection, Steven!”

He’s the first Cleveland outfielder to win a fan election since Juan Gonzalez in 2001, according to the MLB.

The team also recognized Ramírez on X, formerly known as Twitter , saying he’s “one of the best to ever wear a Cleveland uniform.”

Ramírez now joins Sandy Alomar Jr. and Kenny Lofton for the most fan elections in team history.

They are joining the American League to face off against the National League at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday, July 16.
