CLEVELAND (WJW) – The Euclid Police Department, still mourning the recent loss of its own fallen officer, is showing support for the Cleveland Division of Police after officer Jamieson Ritter was killed in the line of duty.

Euclid police officer Jacob Derbin was killed while responding to a call at a home on May 11.

The 23-year-old officer, a Cuyahoga Heights native remembered as a “true hero,” was laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery on May 18.

Now, less than two months after his death, the Euclid Police Department is paying tribute to Cleveland officer Ritter, who was killed on the Fourth of July.

Memorial service planned for fallen Cleveland officer Jamieson Ritter

“Our hearts grieve for our brothers and sisters in Cleveland over this horrible loss,” the department said on Facebook Friday afternoon. “We will continue to stand with you as you’ve done for us, even in the darkest of times. You all stay in our thoughts and prayers.”

Ritter, a four-year veteran with the Division of Cleveland Police, was shot and killed just before 1 a.m. Thursday while responding to a man wanted for felonious assault near Wade Park.

Investigators say the suspect, 24-year-old Delawnte Hardy, fled on a bike, pulled out a gun and opened fire. Ritter was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead from his injuries.

Inside the investigation: What led to Cleveland Officer Ritter’s death?

Hardy, who appeared in court Friday morning, is charged with aggravated murder.

A memorial service will be held for officer Ritter Monday morning at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist.

Many other local law enforcement groups and officials have issued statements following Ritter’s death. You can find more of those here.
