In honor of Jamieson Ritter, a Cleveland Police officer who lost his life on the line of duty Thursday, a run was held in Cleveland Saturday morning.

Participants met outside of Cleveland Police Headquarters to warm up.

Cleveland police public information officer Wilfredo Diaz says this is their way of showing their support to Ritter's family and the community.

"It's a very difficult time for our division, our officers are pushing through this. They're still out there responding for calls, knowing that they lost a brother a couple days ago. They wake up every morning, put the badge on, put their uniform on, knowing in the back of the mind that this had occurred and any one of us can be next," said Diaz.

They marched to the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial for a prayer and a moment of silence before doing a formation run around the block.

Members of Ritter's class from the Cleveland Police Academy ran with their class flag.

"We were in the academy together and we hung out a lot. He was a funny individual, strong personality, goofy and always smiled even when you know things got hard," said Shanautica Gardner.

The 27-year-old officer tragically lost his life early Thursday morning after being shot while on a call for a felonious assault.
