CLEVELAND (WJW) — A man accused in last summer’s mass shooting on West 6th Street has been found guilty of all charges by a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court judge after pleading no contest. A trial had been scheduled to start Wednesday.

The judge found Jaylon Jennings, 26, guilty of the following charges, according to the county prosecutor’s office:

    • Nine counts of Attempted Murder
    • 18 counts of Felonious Assault
    • Two counts of Having a Weapon Under Disability
    • One count of Grand Theft
    • One count of Receiving Stolen Property

Jennings’ sentencing isn’t scheduled until Sept. 3.

Kevin Del Valle-Salaman, 25, who was an accomplice in the shooting where nine people were struck by bullets, previously pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and obstructing justice.

Prosecutors said that last July, the two men had left a bar on West 6th Street, going back to Del Valle-Salaman’s vehicle where Jennings grabbed a gun and went back to wait outside the bar before opening fire.

“Eight of the victims appeared to be part of a targeted group of friends and an additional victim standing nearby was also struck,” prosecutors said in a news release. No one was killed in the incident.

The two fled the scene but were arrested later that month.

“What was supposed to be a fun night out in the heart of Downtown Cleveland quickly turned into a nightmare for these nine individuals and dozens of others on West 6th Street,” Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley said in a statement. “It is a miracle that no one was killed, and more people were not injured. Our community continues to be plagued by gun violence. This plea is a firm reminder that gun violence is unacceptable and we will hold violent crime offenders accountable in our county.”

Del Valle-Salaman has not yet been sentenced.
