Deshaun Watson says he is 'in a great state' as Browns training camp approaches

    Deshaun Watson is feeling better.

    At least he says so.

When talking to reporters Wednesday, Watson said he is "in a great state" and approaching the daily grind of getting back into the throwing groove after he was sidelined by a shoulder injury in the 2023 season.

“I just have been taking it one day at a time,” Watson said, via Zac Jackson of The Athletic. “Everything has been set in stone [with the rehab schedule], and I haven’t had any setbacks or anything that’s holding me back.”

Watson's words confirm what head coach Kevin Stefanski said about his starting quarterback recently, claiming he is doing well and looking more like himself on the field.

“I think he looked like himself to me," Stefanski said. "I’ve been able to watch him the last couple of weeks now that we’ve gotten into phase two. So, I’ve seen him throw,” said Stefanski. "He’s making great progress, and we will continue to just follow the medical team on this. But he looks like himself.”

Watson was limited to six games last season. He started throwing in April. He threw every other day over the final stage of the Browns’ offseason program that ran from late May and June.

“This is a blessing to be able to continue to play the game of football and have the people that want you to succeed," Watson said. "For me to even be back throwing the football is definitely my top point."

Watson has been on track to be ready to compete come the start of training camp on July 23.

The pressure will be monumental for the Browns' quarterback. During his time in Cleveland, he has played in 12 games and missed out on the Browns' miracle run to the NFL playoffs during the 2023 season.

In several ways, it is a make-or-break season. And all the pressure is riding on Watson's uncertain shoulder.
