NFL writer makes a bold claim about Nick Chubb that may not be possible during 2024 season

Nick Chubb has been the definition of consistent since he entered the NFL. The only thing to slow him down has been an injury and that happened in Week 2 last season against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With Chubb having to have two surgeries on that knee and a long road to recovery, one may wonder when he will be ready to go again. He was a non-participant through OTAs when he was just beginning to run on land again.

With all of that being said, Nick Chubb is still going to lead the NFL in rushing, according to one bold take made by Bleacher Report.

“If Chubb opens the season as Cleveland's lead back, with a more stabilized quarterback situation and fewer runners actually eclipsing 1,100 yards, he can easily don his cape and cowl and regain his previous status as the best of the best.” - Brent Sobleski, Bleacher Report

Chubb’s best season came in 2019 when he ran wild for 1,494 rushing yards and even that did not lead the NFL. In each of the previous four seasons before the injury, Chubb was named a Pro Bowler and crossed the 1,000-yard threshold. If it were not for the injury, Chubb could be a trendy pick to lead the league in rushing.

The general belief is that Chubb won’t be ready in Week 1 and that is a huge knock to his chances alone right there. Cleveland is not going to hand the ball to Chubb nearly 300 times this season it just is not going to happen with him coming off of a serious knee injury.

It would be no surprise for a player like Chubb to return and run for 1,000 yards. With the expectation that the Browns are putting on Deshaun Watson to be the best he can be along with the passing offense, this may not be the offense for a back to pop off for 1,300 yards anymore.

If there is anyone who can come back from a serious knee injury and still be close to the same player, that person is Chubb. The biggest thing standing in front of him is the timetable for a return. Cleveland shouldn’t rush back Chubb and rush injury due to him returning soon and they won’t.
