Cleveland Browns are beginning the week with some roster moves after taking a hit to their offensive line depth.

Center Brian Allen was shaken up on Saturday at practice and the Browns have now placed him on the reserved/injured list with what is being called a calf injury. The Browns signed Allen this off-season as a free agent who has veteran experience on the interior of the offensive line.

In a corresponding move, the Browns have signed former UFL standout guard Zack Johnson to add some extra depth. Head coach Kevin Stefanski was unwilling to say the serious injury was for sure season-ending, and that will depend on how the Browns roster shakes out.

"We'll see how the roster shakes out," Stefanski said on the possibility that the injury is season-ending. "Disappointed for him obviously with an injury, but we'll see how it shakes out."

Allen was brought in to compete for the backup center job behind starter Ethan Pocic with second-year player Luke Wyple r. With the injury, Wypler is in a prime position to hold down that backup center job.

For Allen, the injury comes ahead of his seventh season and it is just a tough break. Allen played in just 12 games over the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. The 28-year-old was trying to bounce back from the injury issues that he had last season and the Browns are just his second NFL team.

The new signing, Johnson, was an undrafted free agent signed by the Green Bay Packers back in 2020. Since then, he has spent time with multiple practice squads around the NFL. Johnson is a 6-foot-6, 315-pound guard out of North Dakota State who was named to the All-UFL team this past season.

A few housekeeping notes for the Browns, who are entering their second week of training camp. Unfortunately, the first week came with an injury and a knock to the offensive line depth. Cleveland will practice each day this week outside of Wednesday.
