Mike Vrabel is someone that the Browns never seen as a possible addition to their staff but it is one they surely will not take for granted.

Vrabel is working with the offense specifically and holds the title of coaching and personnel consultant. With the offense, it is the tight end position that Vrabel is keyed in on. The Browns have themselves a good one with David Njoku and he is someone that Vrabel has been working closely with.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski gave a peak into Vrabel’s role on Friday.

“So, the idea with having coach Vrabes on the offensive side of the ball, he’s been a defensive coordinator, obviously been a great player in this league. So he can give our offensive staff perspective from the other side of the ball,” Stefanski explained. “And then working with that position, as an outside linebacker he had a lot of battles with tight ends and can talk to them about blocking techniques and how to release versus an outside linebacker versus six technique, whatever it may be. So, I just think Vrabes has a very natural way of helping the tight ends because he literally went against those guys for years.”

Vrabel and Njoku have been spotted a ton early on in training camp working on hand technique within blocking. Njoku is one of the better blockers at tight end that you will find on Sundays, it is just not talked about much because it is what he did with the ball in his hands that shines the most.

“Dave looks healthy like you mentioned. He’s making a lot of plays for us in the pass game. Right now, a dependable player we’re asking to do some things that he hasn’t done before. I think he’s taking the bit in terms of learning some different techniques, if you will, different concepts. He’s done a nice job,” Stefanski said.

Njoku had a career-high 882 receiving yards last season to go along with six touchdowns. He earned his first Pro Bowl nod and is shining early on in training camp. Working with Vrabel and adding new additions to his game, Njoku could be in store for his first All-Pro season in 2024.
