Monday night's news had everyone on the edge of their seat. And it kept many up throughout the night wondering if the New England Patriots could pull off a major move.

NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reported that the San Francisco 49ers "negotiated the frameworks of trades that would send wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to the Cleveland Browns and the New England Patriots."

“Now, it is up to Aiyuk to determine if he will accept the contract terms from either of those franchises,“ he added.

And with all those rumors, he also explained how part of the Patriots package to the 49ers might include veteran wide receiver Kendrick Bourne. So what's the latest on all of that?

Head coach Jerod Mayo came out and spoke with the media prior to Tuesday's training camp practice, and started the press conference addressing the rumors.

“I know what you guys want to know," he stated, "One thing I did learn from Bill is I don’t talk about players from other teams.”

However, while he wouldn't directly talk about the trade rumors, he was willing to comment on the Kendrick Bourne comments and whether he's spoken with the receiver.

“It was a good conversation. Once again, I feel like the story is so much further along than anything else,” Mayo said. "I do believe in being transparent with the players and really setting those guys at ease.”

It is worth noting that Bourne was not out with the team for the stretch period. While he is still on PUP, he has been out almost every morning to do warmups with his teammate.

Now that could be because of all of this, but it could also be because it is rainy which could risk further injury. But again, had to mention it.

The Patriots re-signed Bourne this offseason on a three-year deal worth up to $33 million.

Bourne was not been shy in his desires to return to the Patriots for the 2024 season after tearing his ACL last season.

Bourne was set to have one of his best seasons prior to the injury, finishing with 37 total receptions for 406 receiving yards and four touchdowns across eight games.

In his seven years in the league, Bourne has 264 receptions for 3,409 receiving yards and 21 receiving touchdowns. He also has 19 carries for 168 rushing yards.

But he has a history with the 49ers, signing as an undrafted free agent with San Francisco in 2017.
