A Clewiston man faces vehicle homicide charges after authorities say he turned himself in to Collier County authorities months after his pickup was impounded in Hendry County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Byron Lee Billie, 36, faces charges for leaving the scene of a fatal crash March 24.

Authorities said Billie turned himself in at the Collier County Jail on Monday.

Three days after the crash, troopers said, their Traffic Homicide Unit impounded the suspected fatal hit-and-run Chevrolet pickup, partially concealed under a tarp at a Hendry County home.

Authorities said the crash happened about 7:45 a.m. March 24 along Oil Well Road, near State Road 29, in Ave Maria.

Troopers said the pickup was traveling east on Oil Well Road, near State Road 29, while the bicyclist, a 64-year-old Ave Maria man, rode ahead of the pickup.

The pickup hit the bicyclist, authorities said, who died at a hospital.
