Officials: Water safe to drink following firefighting efforts along Route 3 in Clifton

The Passaic Valley Water Commission says that the drinking water is safe in Clifton following a deadly truck fire and explosion on Route 3. Water officials say that previous water discoloration was due to sediment from firefighting efforts and heavy water usage from fire hydrants. The state Department of Environmental Protection and Department of Transportation is overseeing the cleanup. Officials say that the truck exploded after it was struck by a bus on the eastbound side of Route 3 Monday morning. Clifton police and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s office are leading the investigation. "
