Last year, the daily high temperature was over 110 degrees F for 51 days in Phoenix. Usually, the 100-degree weather starts in summer. This year, the extreme heat will come early. Based on the ten-day forecast, it will be 100 degrees on Mother’s Day.

Phoenix is already experiencing a heat wave. Daily highs are expected to be 99 degrees or above for the next ten days.

For some reason, local officials believe Phoenix will remain habitable in the future. That may be true in the short term, but certainly not decades from now. The heat is already such a major problem that people should not work outdoors during the hottest days. However, they continue to do so despite significant peril.

    Drought As Well

Drought is another problem for the city; the heat worsens it. City officials try to continue to make the case that this problem can be solved. However, the reasons are not strong unless the massive drought in the Western US fades considerably. Recent rain will not turn the tide of a long-term trend.

It may be so hot that Mother’s Day must be celebrated indoors.
