Current, former CBP officers arrested on theft charges
Seven current and former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have been arrested in Clinton County on theft charges. New York State Police say all seven defendants were executive board members of the National Treasury Employees Union chapter 138 in Champlain. They’re accused of double-billing government and union accounts for official travel and taking cash advances for personal use.
Legion baseball memorial tournament in Clinton County dedicated to local veteran Floyd Rock
MORRISONVILLE, N.Y. — A man influential to the northern New York American Legion baseball community is being honored through the game he loved the most. The first edition of the Floyd Rock Memorial Tournament is in action this weekend. The tournament, which started on July 4 in Plattsburgh, New York, features 12 American Legion baseball squads representing towns close to Plattsburgh to even as far as Canadian provinces in Ontario.

Inspired by CCHA photo albums of early area trains and the recently acquired collection of rail enthusiast Lawrence Duffina, Transportation Historian Dick Soper will share the history of rail development, which opened up Clinton County to new markets and eventually to new tourism and a past we now take for granted. This is the 1st of a multi-part series that will span the period from 1833 to the present and include photographs, newspaper articles, and information from our large collection of railroad books recently added to our research library.
Champlain National Bank awards $4,500 in scholarships
PLATTSBURGH | Champlain National Bank gave $4,500 in scholarship money to graduating seniors throughout Essex, Clinton, and Franklin counties at graduation ceremonies in June. Recipients of the Champlain National Bank Scholarship receive $500 toward college expenses. Champlain National Bank Scholarships are awarded every year at graduation to students from school districts within the three counties who will be attending college in the fall.
