CLINTON — The weather may have been chilly but the bats were hot as the Clinton baseball team swept Parkview 13-3, 10-1 in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday.

The Cougars combined for 19 hits and 22 RBI in the stellar showing of offense.

Clinton scored nine runs in the fourth inning of the first game as Payton Whalen had a team-high three hits and Collin Gill had three RBI on a pair of singles and a HBP. Gavin Wesling threw all five innings, striking out seven and allowing three runs (one earned) on a hit and six walks.

Mathias Treinen had the Vikings’ lone hit of the game.

In the nightcap, Clinton put up six runs in the first and four in the seventh for the big win. Whalen continued his strong Saturday with three hits while Gill, who doubled, once again recorded three RBI. Cooper Atkinson allowed just one earned run on three hits with six punchouts in the complete game.

Christian Hobon had a double for the Vikings, and Oliver Friedrich brought him home on a groundout in the seventh.

    • HONONEGAH 21, ROCKFORD EAST 0: Cameron Nelson blasted a three-run homer for the Indians, who routed the hosting E-Rabs in NIC-10 action on Friday.

Hononegah (10-4-1, 6-0), who had beaten East 24-0 on Wednesday, poured on 10 runs in the first. Landon Seymour had two hits and a pair of RBI while Drake Broege, who brought in three runs, and Evan Sayles added two hits in the 14-hit outing.

East (0-6, 0-6) committed eight errors and was held hitless by Nolan Mabie (three innings, nine strikeouts) and Jakob DeLeo (one inning, one walk, three strikeouts) in four frames.

    • OSHKOSH NORTH 16, BELOIT TURNER 10: Turner found itself on the wrong end of a slugfest with Oshkosh at the DeBoer Diamond Classic hosted at Waupun High School on Friday.

North (3-6) had made it 10-0 before Beloit scored six in the fifth and three in sixth. Shaun Gavin had a two-run double and three-run bomb for Oshkosh as the two teams combined for 19 hits.

Andy Buckley and Fernando Tillery each had two hits for Turner while Hayden Frey and Zack Ries, who had three RBI, each smacked doubles. Sam Erickson also had three RBI.

    • COLUMBUS 9, BELOIT TURNER 8: The Trojans fell behind 9-2 and nearly climbed back with a six-run sixth inning before ultimately falling in Waupun on Saturday.

Brody Berg smacked a three-run triple in the crucial sixth, but Turner (3-4) only managed one baserunner in the seventh to fail at its comeback attempt.

Buckley’s two-run double put the Trojans up in the third before the Cardinals (8-3) scored all nine of its runs in the fourth. Tillery added a double for errorless Turner, which finished with five hits.

    • BURLINGTON 11, BELOIT MEMORIAL 4: The Demons were consistent with their offense, scoring three runs in the first and seventh while adding four in the fourth, and finishing with 15 hits in the win over the Purple Knights on Friday.

Beloit (0-4, 0-4 SLC) got two hits from Max Allen and a double from Tayvon Cates but it wasn’t enough as Burlington (3-6, 2-2) knocked starter Dustin Foss for seven earned runs on nine hits. Owen West went three frames and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits.

West, Brooks Mitchell and Brenin Pearson each drove in a run for the Knights.

    • DELAVAN-DARIEN 5, BRODHEAD/JUDA 2: Kohen Sawle smacked a sacrifice fly before Evan Senobe drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh but it wasn’t enough as the Cardinals’ late rally against the Comets fell short on Friday.

Gabe Bockhop and Ryan Searls had the only two hits of the day for Brodhead, who struggled against Delavan-Darien’s Neil Janssen, who was pulled in the seventh after striking out four and walking four with two earned runs.

Senobe threw four innings and struck out seven but allowed five earned runs on three hits and five walks. Clayton Elliott struck out five and allowed just two hits in two scoreless frames.

    • BYRON 4, NORTH BOONE 3: The Vikings committed seven errors, the last in the bottom of the seventh that allowed the hosting Tigers to score the winning run in Big Northern action on Saturday.

North Boone scored three in the sixth off RBI singles from RJ Wolski and Matt Self. But Byron, who was outhit 6-3, took advantage of the Vikings’ numerous miscues.

Eli Lopez had two hits for North Boone and took the loss from the mound after going 1 1-3 innings and allowing one hit, one walk and one unearned run. Self went 5 1-3 frames and allowed three unearned runs on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

    • CHRISTIAN LIBERTY 17-3, SOUTH BELOIT 14-1: The SoBos were swept by the Chargers in Saturday’s doubleheader that featured 26 combined hits in the first game and seven in the second.

JT Sanders, Andrew Kaehler and Jonah Martinez each had three hits for hosting South Beloit in the early game. Richard Carlson added two hits, including a double, and two steals as the SoBos tied it a nine in the fourth inning but were outscored 8-5 through the final three.

Christian Liberty scored two runs in the fifth inning of game two and limited South Beloit to four hits in the nightcap. Carlson had one hit and scored the lone run when he stole home.

Sanders went 5 2-3 innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and seven walks with 10 strikeouts.

    • ELKHORN 11, BIG FOOT 0: The Chiefs’ offense was limited to a single by Will Wojick as the hosting Elks came away with the strong non-conference win on Saturday.

Elkhorn (6-5) scored nine in the first inning and two in the second half to shorten the game to five innings. Ayden McGraw went 2-for-2 for the Elks, who outhit Big Foot (4-5) 8-1.

Konner Glos took the loss for the Chiefs as he allowed nine runs, but just three earned, on five hits and four walks in one inning pitched.
